Bitburg County Museum

The Bitburg-Prüm District Museum shows what life was like in the Eifel region in the past.
It houses collections on the everyday and cultural history of the Eifel. Across 20 exhibition rooms, it tells the story of the region, commemorates the people who lived here, and displays treasures from the past. It offers insights into the worlds of daily life and work over the past three centuries. It also features an archaeological collection.
The photography section of the collection features the photographic estate of farmer Albert Theisen from Meckel, consisting of 794 glass plates, his camera, and a fully preserved darkroom with all its equipment. The photographs depict the everyday life and idyll of rural life.

A separate room is dedicated to the life and work of the sculptor, painter, and graphic artist Mathieu Molitor from Pickließem.

Regular special exhibitions continually offer new insights into the history and culture of the Eifel region. For children, there is an exciting museum guide: “Johanna Falls Out of the Frame” tells the story of a girl from 100 years ago and playfully guides children in grades 3–6 through the museum. Guided tours in German or English are available for groups.

Dogs are allowed in the museum on a leash.

Upon prior registration, visitors may enter through the garden. An elevator and an accessible restroom are available. A discount on the admission price is available upon presentation of a disability ID card.

The museum is closed on the following dates: August7 , December 24, 25, and 31, January 1, Carnival Sunday, and Rose Monday.
