The two Cologne musicians Philipp Sutter and Simon Wangen pose the title of their project "Do you believe in spring?" as a question during their concert on October 25th at 7:00 PM in the Festsaal of Haus Beda. They want to raise a question in times of uncertainty, crises, and environmental destruction. In their view, it is never too late to start something new, to become creative, and to test one's own limits. "Do you believe in spring?" begins tumultuously and agitatedly, oscillating between romantic, sad, and beautiful moments, leading from a rather gloomy start to the last and titular piece in C major, which leaves the audience with a glimmer of hope. Simon Wangen is a classically trained cellist, while Philipp Sutter is a trained jazz pianist. The different musical roots blend into a lively mixture of neoclassicism, new jazz, and Cinéma Nordique in this concert. The subtle use of electronic effects continuously opens up new perspectives and bridges to contemporary sound aesthetics. Cello and piano – this instrumentation has been established for centuries, but still allows for new facets in 2025.
