Devonium Waxweiler- Geotourism highlight - unique in Germany

This museum tells one of the most fascinating stories of evolution: The Earth has existed for billions of years, but about 400 million years ago, a green revolution laid the foundation for our life. Plants left the water and conquered the land. Dive into this distant world, as the Devonium explains these complex scientific connections of fossil life (paleontology) in a playful way. During the Devonian period, Waxweiler was located in a river delta. This Lower Devonian delta is the site of unique fossil plant discoveries by the Rebske family. The museum showcases the latest scientific findings about the fossils discovered in the Köppen quarry near Waxweiler and about the depositional environments of the rock layers exposed there.

Those who wish can also hike the Devon Trail around Waxweiler (approx. 15 km) or go on a fossil hunt in the area.

The exhibits of the Roman Museum partially consist of finds from the Roman villa in Waxweiler, enhanced by loans and donations from friends and supporters of the association. The collection includes coins, ceramic products for household and building use, tools, glassware, and jewelry.

From May 3rd to June 14th, 2026, the exhibition "ANDERSwo" by the artist Georg Worecki will take place at the Devonium.
